Three Years, a Thousand Models

Bless me Internet, for I have sinned. It's been eleven hundred and forty-five days since my last confession.

Ehrm.

Sorry 'bout that.

Where was I? Right. Talking about painting.

Hindsight Is always 2022 - a Year in Review

Welcome, welcome, one and all, to see the rare. the bizarre, the unsettling. It is said that once, this creature would be seen often, making bestial noises on virtual street corners, attacking random competitive players. But in modern times, few indeed can claim to have seen the elusive Incarias, and fewer still to have heard it speak.

But here, beyond the curtain, you, my ladies and gentlemen, can behold this gruesome spectacle. Who knows when the chance will come again? Come one, come all.

3D Printing for Fun and Profit

 Insert randomized greeting.

A little under three years ago, I went and bought a 3D printer. It's a Sparkmaker FHD (so named because it's screen is fairly good, and its adapter sparked out on the second use), and it's a fairly decent little machine. It has a relatively small print area, which affects what I can print on it, but for quality of prints, it can go toe to toe with any of its contemporaries.

And it's still in working order, though all the usual suspects have had to be replaced.

So, what's the point?

On Activation Order and Random Chance

 Howdy y'all.

Step right up, pull the string in my back, and watch me go "There's an inherent flaw in Age of Sigmar!".

I'm nothing if not predictable.

Growing up KInda Sucks, Doesn't It? The Alternative Is Worse, Though.

You really thought I was gone didn't you? Defunct, like the logo to the right? Or maybe just moved on to the new, away from the old text-based medium?

No such luck I'm afraid.

A Year in Review - A Pile of Miniatures

This would be the second instalment in my 2016 year-in-review. The first one was about games played. This one is about miniatures painted.

Strap in.

A Year in Review - A Cavalcade of Games

2016 is coming to an end. I can't say I'm sad o see it go; it's been a real something of a year.

With the end in sight, I figured I'd try to sum up what I've done, hobby-wise. Not least because I've actually been taking notes for the entire year. It's going to have to be split into parts, though, and I figured I's start with Games Played, and Models Painted, which'll make two posts. We'll see if I manage more.

First off, then, games played.

On Guild Ball and the Death of the Tape Measure

Let's see if I still have an editorial-style post in me, shall we?

Mount up, buckle you seat belts, and keep your arms and legs inside the ride at all times. The pilot hasn't done this (without being angry) for a long time, and we might experience some turbulence.

Barf bags in hand? Expectations set to low?

Off we go.

I'm Bad at This (and a Bunch of Guild Ball Models)

I've had a bit of games lately.

I've played a bunch of the Pathfinder card game. Five scenarios, to be a bit precise.

I've played Eldritch Horror. Just the one.

And I've played four games of Guild Ball.

All in the last three weeks.

I have, however, also managed to paint quite a few minis.

Frostgrave and the Shortcomings of the D20

I was about to write that I've had a slow week, but that would be a lie.

On the one hand, I've got work done on four separate systems - though I haven't got many finished models to show for it, having focussed on preparatory stuff - and on the other, I've played both Eldritch Horror and Frostgrave.

So I'll write about why I'm reaching the end of my foray into Frostgrave.

A Little Bit of Work on Projects out My Ears, and a Couple of Games

It has been another couple of less than productive weeks, once again mostly because I've been playing games rather than working on clearing stuff from my painting list.

I know, it's a hard life.

The Second Stage of Hobby Grief - Writing a Blog Post about It

This one's been brewing for a while and I haven't done anything productive hobby-wise this week. I guess I'll rant instead.

I am disappointed in Age of Sigmar. This is me trying to explain why I even care.

Warning: this article contains material of an overly-dramatic nature and some melancholy scenes. Reader discretion is advised.

Projects out of My Ears - Second Update

Holiday season is over, and I'm running out of excuses not to write this up, so here goes.

This is what I've managed since last time.

Projects out of My Ears - First Try at Update

Lo and behold! I said I would do something, and I did it. Rejoice, oh ye of little faith.

Yeah, like anyone actually read the last post...

Anyhow...

Projects Coming out of My Ears

I don't write here much any more. I'm not going to apologize.

However, I do keep doing hobby stuff. And I feel like it would be good to have a motivation to, one, actually get projects done and, two, take pictures (I've got myself a snazzy new camera and all).

So, here are the projects I am more or less actively working on right now. Hopefully, I'll make progress updates at a rate approaching once a week.

Sigmar Is Dead, Long Live Sigmar - Incarias rants about Age of Sigmar (with surprising vehemence)

It's been a while since I managed to get myself riled up enough about hobby things to actually make a post here. Now, however, that has changed.

In short, I am a giant squid of anger.

Malifaux: Incarias Complains about Terrain in M2E

This has been sitting, half finished, in my Posts for a couple of months now. I figured it's time to do something about that.

The guys down at the club are (or were, see above) getting tired of my complaints about the terrain rules for M2E (Malifaux 2nd Edition, for those not in the know).

So I figured I'd whine to anyone foolish enough to stumble upon my little corner of the Internet instead...

M2E: What Malifaux Has Got Wrong (or 'My Long-awaited Whine Post')

And I'm back, and if you all gather 'round, I'll regale you with tales of horrible games design.

Wait, what's that? M2E is better than most other games?

Well, I'll still whine.

M2E: What Malifaux Has Done Right

So, if you hadn't noticed, there's been an edition change in Malifaux. M2E (Malifaux 2nd Edition) was up for a public beta in June and July, pre-released at GenCon (with the very nice addition that those of us not attending that event could still get it from the web store for those few days) and has now been sent to retailers for real.

This is my take.
